GetThe story of GetFormat
One developer, one observation, one conviction: your files should never pass through a stranger's server.
The starting point
Converting an image, compressing a PDF, creating a QR code: everyday tasks. Yet almost every "free" online tool works the same way: you send them your file. Your contract, your bank details, photos of your kids — on the server of a company you don't know, with free-tier limits and a subscription at the end.
GetFormat was born from that observation. My name is Jérôme Le Menn, independent developer, and I built the tool I wanted to use myself: a complete file toolbox that runs entirely in the browser. The file goes nowhere — and you can verify it: load a tool page, turn off Wi-Fi, it still works.
The mission
Make everyday file tools free, private and honest:
- Free without traps — no watermark, no "2 tasks a day", no forced account. Since processing is local, it costs us nothing: it costs you nothing.
- Private by design — no upload, no retention, GDPR respected not by promise but by architecture.
- Honest — when a tool has a limit (no HEIC, no PDF text editing), we say it plainly. Our competitor comparisons credit their real strengths.
The business model (transparent)
All converters and tools stay free. The Pro plan (€9.99/month, no commitment) only covers what genuinely requires a server: dynamic QR codes with statistics, hosted restaurant menus, unlimited bulk generation. No ads, no data resale — there is no data to resell anyway.
Today
GetFormat is 30+ tools (images, PDF, audio, video, QR codes, barcodes), 15 illustrated guides, a bilingual French/English interface, and features you won't find free anywhere else: real PDF redaction, custom QR codes with readability checking, A4 barcode label sheets.
